What is a Pink Slip?

A pink slip β€” officially called an eSafety check β€” is a mandatory NSW safety inspection for most vehicles aged five years or older. It must be done before you can renew your rego with Service NSW. Once your car passes, the result is sent electronically straight to Transport for NSW β€” no paperwork to drop off.

What we inspect

Our authorised AUIS examiners check every safety-critical system on your vehicle, including:

  • Brakes β€” pads, discs, lines and handbrake
  • Tyres β€” tread depth, condition and pressure
  • Steering and suspension β€” play, leaks and component wear
  • Lights β€” headlights, indicators, brake lights, reverse
  • Windscreen, wipers and washers
  • Seatbelts and child restraint anchorages
  • Exhaust system and emissions
  • Body and chassis condition
  • Number plates and identifiers

What you need to bring

  • Your vehicle (obvious β€” but make sure it has fuel)
  • Current rego papers or your rego number
  • Driver's licence
  • Payment β€” we accept card, EFTPOS and cash

What happens if my car fails?

Don't stress. NSW gives you 14 days to fix any defects and present the car again β€” and we can usually do the repairs for you on the spot. We'll give you a written list of what failed, a free quote for the repairs, and a free re-inspection once the work is done.

Pink Slip vs Blue Slip β€” what's the difference?

A pink slip (eSafety) is for renewing rego on a vehicle that's already registered. A blue slip (AUVIS) is needed when registering a vehicle for the first time in NSW, after it's been unregistered for more than three months, or after major modifications. We can refer you to a blue slip provider if you need one.

FAQs

How much does a pink slip cost?
The maximum fee set by NSW Government is $42 for cars and light vehicles. Motorbikes and trailers have different set fees. We charge the standard rates β€” no surprises.
How long does it take?
Most inspections are done within 30 minutes. You're welcome to wait in our customer lounge with free Wi-Fi and coffee.
Do I need an appointment?
Walk-ins are welcome, but booking online or calling ahead guarantees you'll be seen straight away with no wait.
My car is less than 5 years old β€” do I need one?
Generally no β€” most vehicles under 5 years are exempt. If you're not sure, give us a call with your rego and we'll confirm.
Can you fix any issues found?
Yes. We're a full mechanical workshop, so if your car fails on brakes, tyres or anything else, we can quote and repair on the spot β€” then re-inspect at no extra cost.
